As most people are aware, travellers have entered the land behind the Health Centre on Mably Way. They entered through a gate that is 'controlled' by the District Council, and then proceeded to damage another fence to gain access onto the sports pitches behind the Health Centre. These sports pitches are currently under the remit of the Parish Council. The travellers moved on from these pitches but last eveing turned up on the Village Green. Can I reiterate what Elisabeth Green has said before, and ask local residents not to give these people any work whatsoever. The Council has been informed that if they are not given any work then they will move on to somewhere else. This latest incident has been reported to the police and to OCC's traveller liaison officer.
As most of you are aware, the gypsies have now left the Recreation Ground in Grove. A specialist cleaning team from Rentokill came in yesterday to blitz the area. The total cost was as follows:
Call out fee x 1 – 240.00
Man Hours x 28 – 2,380.00
Waste bags x 100 – 3,500.00
Car removal x 1 – 300.00
Needle box x 1 – 55.00
Total cost £6,475.00
This will have to come out of Council's reserves. Below are a few photos of the area before the cleaning team went in.
The Council will be discussing a way forward, in the coming weeks, any useful suggestions will be appreciated
Unfortunately the gypsies have entered the Recreation Ground yesterday afternoon via the lay-by gate (near the skatepark). They used cutting tools to break the chain and then man handled the half ton concrete blocks out of the way. Will keep you all posted!
