Letcombe Brook Project

The Letcombe Brook ProjectThe diversity and character of the brook has been shaped and changed by centuries of human endeavour and changes in land use.  Over time, habitats and the river corridor landscape have deteriorated and been faced with many environmental issues and development pressures.

The Letcombe Brook Project was set up in April 2003 to enhance and protect the natural beuty of the brook and to help people appreciate and enjoy the environment.  By working in partnership with local people, riparian owners, the district council, parish and town councils along with other organisations, the Project has been able to bring about positive environmental benefits for both wildlife and the people that live and work along the brook.

Letcombe Brook Project objectives.

  • To conserve and enhance the biodiversity and landscape of Letcombe Brook
  • To promote environmentally responsible land management practices amongst landowners and land managers
  • To increase awareness of countryside and environmental issues through education and interpretation
  • To involve all sectors of the community in caring for and appreciating the Letcombe Brook

Organisation.  The Project is co-ordinated by the Letcombe Brook Project Officer.  The Officer regularly reports to the steering group, Grove and Wantage Joint Environmental Trusts and, at times to Parish and Town Councils.
